Apple cranberry experiment

This cast iron dish includes the remaining apple cranberry mix covered with pie crust stars. I had made the stars to decorate the top of the fruit pie. However the recipe I later chose included a brown sugar pecan crumble topping and the stars were not necessary. As I was filling the pie I realized I had way too many apples and cranberries – even though the recipe called for five apples and I only had four. Perhaps my apples were larger than what is normally used? I have no idea. I put the pie in the oven and thought about what I should do with the extra filling. Here's my decision:

Cranberry apple pie

This is the first apple pie I've made in many years. I do not remember the apples being piled so high. I didn't even put all of them in there. I have a small bowl of apples and cranberries that I guess I will bake in another dish – sans crust!
